Abstract
Medical errors in dentistry represent a complex and
multifaceted issue that lacks a single universally accepted and comprehensive
definition. This article analyzes existing classifications of medical errors,
identifying their strengths and weaknesses. Possible alternative approaches to
classification are considered, based on objective and subjective causes, as well as
on medical and non-medical factors influencing diagnostic and treatment
processes, and taking into account the degree of harm caused to the patient.
Given the dynamic development of medicine, the term “medical error” requires
not only modern scientific interpretation but also official recognition as a
current healthcare problem. To enhance its practical applicability in medical
documentation, further clarification and systematization of this concept are
necessary.
